AAA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

(Academics, Arts & Athletics)

AAA Afterschool Program is a year-long program bringing youth together with professionals from academics, arts and athletics to improve academic performance; to learn skills in the performing arts; and to stay healthy participating in competitive sports leagues. The program also
features mentoring, life skills and tutoring and is offered at a reduced rate to accommodate low income families.  Youth arrive at the program either by school bus drop off or by using our pick up transportation service.

The program meets daily, Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6:30pm except on holidays. Youth are provided with a snack and supper.  During the first hour upon arriving, youth begin with Homework Club, in which students complete school work or homework or those having neither will work on Math and  Reading Skills using the computers.

The next hour youth are divided into groups:  performing arts or athletics.

They work on various techniques and assignments while in their program choice.  Supper is served at 5:00pm.  The last hour of the program youth alternate to the other program component: those who were in athletics go to performing arts and those who were in performing arts go to
athletics.

FAME! YOUTH THEATRE

(Forever Achieving My Efforts!)

FAME! Youth Theatre is a free, year-long afterschool program of intensive education and training in acting, vocal music and dance, held Monday-Friday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on regular school days. FAME’s core program is made up of four companies:  The FAME Acting
Company, the FAME Singers, the FAME Dancers and the FAME Technical Crew. Youth, ages 6-17, register for the program and work with professional actors, writers, musicians, dancers and designers.  Youth are trained in four separate groups and break up into their groups after the daily attendance has been taken.  Rehearsing after school, these young artists are involved in the creation and performance of professional quality art, while learning violence prevention techniques and conflict resolution strategies.  Additionally, the FAME Youth Theatre presents two public main stage performances on January 14, 2012 and June 2, 2012.

Each of the four companies works separately, but come together to create two grand performances.  In the first session, the youth will learn to create their own musical stage production.  They will write the play, choreograph the music and dancing and design the costumes and staging,
with the help and assistance of the Directors and staff. They will perform this production on January 14, 2012.

In the second session, youth learn the other aspects of musical theatre by performing an American musical where the youth run all aspects of the play 100%.  They will be involved in the advertising, ticket sales, designing and staging, publicity, directing and producing.  The January and June productions will be held in the auditorium

.
The program will begin on Monday, August 29, 2011 and conclude on Friday, June 8, 2012.  The program will operate according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools calendar and will be closed on those days that are recognized by CMS.
